MALANDA YOUTH THEATRE
Malanda Youth Theatre activities will recommence in term 1 2022.
It will be necessary to cap numbers to comply with the COVID regulations so it is important that you register your interest early.
Next week we will distribute this information more widely to promote the group in the community so we are giving returning MYT members and those of you who have already made contact with us the opportunity to apply first.
You can access the membership form from our website.
Cost of membership: $50 per student or $100 family. Please include the names of all family members on one form.
Starting date; Wednesday 23 February.
Time: 3.30
There will be rehearsals every Wednesday from 3.30-5.30pm
As we approach performance dates in Term 2 it may be necessary to rehearse on a few Sundays.
This year we are planning a Variety Concert which will include skits, some short plays, music and movement. This will provide good opportunities for everyone.
Performance Week; End of term 2:
Probably: Sunday 19 June – Wednesday 22 June..
Details to be finalized.
COVID-19: Malanda Theatre Company requires all members to comply with the Government mandates relating to vaccination status, masks and social distancing.
We are aware that these mandates are changing regularly and will keep members informed of changes.
I will not be leading MYT this year as I will be away for part of the rehearsal period but there will be a very keen group of parents and MTC working with the group and they are already actively planning the program.
Please address any communication to Monika Loeschenbrand.
Her email address is monika.loeschenbrand@gmail.com
MYT is looking forward to another great year of theatre in 2022.
Regards
Gill
On behalf of all the MYT leaders.
The year is 1869. Four very different Victorian (Victorian as in UK during Queen Victoria’s reign) women are drawn into the dark underground world of female boxing by the eccentric Professor Charlie Sharp. Controlled by men and constrained by corsets, each one finds an unexpected freedom in the boxing ring.
As their lives begin to intertwine, their journey takes us through drawing rooms, back allies, bustling theatres and strange halls where the women fight inequality as well as each other. But with the final showdown approaching, only one can become the Lady Boxing Champion of the World.
The Sweet Science of Bruising is an epic tale of passion, politics and pugilism set against the backdrop of Victorian London.
Main actors:
Professor Charlie Sharp – Gregg Jacobson
Polly Stokes – Buckley Weirman
Matty Blackwell – Louise Anderson-Clemence
Violet Hunter – Kaitlen Adams
Anna Lamb – Felicity Huston
Paul Stokes – Randall Kelly
Emily and Nancy – Nikki Brown
Gabriel Lamb – Jake Skukan
Dr James Bell/referee/hangman – Damien Cavanagh
Aunt George – Heather Hibbitt
Directed by Ken Cotterill
Opens Friday 20th August 2021
Tickets on Sale 19th July 8am
Malanda Youth Theatre is delighted to be back in action in 2021 and their production of Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ promises to be a fun-filled and colourful event.
Based on the award winning movie about the ‘diamond in the rough’ street rat who learns that true worth lies deep within, this show contains most of the characters who appear in the movie including the Genie, Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, the Sultan and of course the villains Jafar and Iago.
This is a musical with well known songs including ‘Friend like Me’, ‘A Whole New World’ and ‘Arabian Nights’.
The cast of more than 40 students, ranging in age from 9 to 17, has been supported by a production team of directors, musicians, choreographers, costume makers, stage crew and set builders.

It’s time to buy your tickets for ‘Sorting out Rachel’. |
David Williamson, Australia’s best-known playwright has once again written a tale that tackles social issues that we are all familiar with. Put together a teenager, Rachel, who hates her family and lives on social media, her grandfather, Bruce, who earned his millions by bending the rules and Rachel’s parents, the long-suffering Julie and lazy, money-grabbing Craig and the scene is set for conflict. To this mix is added Tess, Bruce’s illegitimate daughter, who the family had no knowledge of. The conflict now has the potential to become a war. The cast is a mixture of familiar and new faces. Rachel is played by Kaitlen Adams, Bruce by Mark Kerwin, Tess by Lioni Wilkinson, Julie by Catriona Arnold-Nott and Craig by Bill Tranter The cast and crew have been rehearsing and are almost ready for an audience. |
