Award winning Graham Harrington directs the latest play for Malanda Theatre Company. Peter Whelan’s gripping drama; The Herbal Bed is based on the true story of Shakespeare’s eldest daughter, Susanna and her alleged affair with another man.
Susanna, a strong, intelligent woman, is married to John Hall, a successful Stratford doctor. Accused of adultery by her husband’s medical student, she sues him to clear her name and protect her husband’s standing in society. The court case is a cliff-hanger made all the more poignant by the belief that perjury, and even lustful thoughts let alone adultery, imperil their mortal souls.
Kirsten Adams plays Susanna and Chris Hoare her husband. (Both had starring roles in MTC’s recent production of CHICAGO). Howard Smith, Mark Kerwin, Seth Hartley, Bill Tranter, Abbey Moore & Lily Moore complete a particularly strong cast.
The Herbal Bed can be seen at the Majestic Theatre, Malanda on August 30, 31, Sept 1, 5,6,7,8.
