One Act Plays

On behalf of the Far North Queensland Amateur Theatre Company, Malanda Theatre Company is hosting a One Act Play Festival in May!

Performers from as far away as Mt Isa and Townsville plus those closer to home such as Malanda, Atherton, Mareeba and Cairns will perform a large number of plays over 5 performance sessions on the long weekend in May.

In addition, Sydney based playwright, director and actor Alex Broun will run a number of drama workshops. Alex will also be the adjudicator for the plays providing useful feedback for all involved. It is through the generous support of the Queensland Government, through Arts Queensland, and TRC by way of a RADF Grant that we have been able to engage Alex for this weekend.

VENUS IN FUR IS BACK!

VENUS IN FUR IS BACK!

IF YOU MISSED IT LAST TIME, HERE’S YOUR LAST CHANCE TO SEE THIS CLASSIC PLAY.

‘Seriously smart and very  funny… a suspense-packed study of the erotics of power’  New York Times.

Malanda Theatre Company’s next production ‘Venus in Fur’  by David  Ives  hits the stage under the direction of Graham Harrington  with Howard Smith and Kirsten Adams playing the two characters.

You will be riveted as the two characters vie for dominance over the other.  Who is this mystery woman who explodes into the life of an unsuspecting stage director, who is auditioning for his new play?  The fact that his play is about a man and woman jousting for control provides a play within a play, both of which have the same theme.  So when are these characters rehearsing and when are they for real?  This question will keep the audience on their toes until the final and unexpected curtain.

You are warned that the script contains strong language which is appropriate for the plot and interaction of the characters. You will be captivated by Howard and Kirsten’s delivery of their characters in this intriguing play.

Only 2 nights:  7th & 8th March
The play runs for approximately 80 minutes.

RUSSIAN NIGHT

1

Russian culture has a frenetic crazy dimension unknown elsewhere.  This is exhibited in nine of the eleven short comedies, which make up the next program of entertainment concocted by the Malanda Theatre Co.

After their success with Bedroom Farce. True to their ambition to bring a varied theatrical experience to the Tablelands, “Russian Night” is DIFFERENT.  Each play is entertaining in a mad sort of way but they all have an unexpected twist and you, the audience, will join the craziness to extract the maximum enjoyment.
